Missed Flight and Memories

19 Aug

It was June 8th, the day after our beautiful wedding. The flight was scheduled to board at 6:30 A.M. I opened my eyes and glanced at the clock; 4:09 A.M., knowing we still had at least 45 minutes until the alarm would go off I closed my eyes and went back to sleep. Waking up again, I looked at the clock and this time it read 6:34 A.M. My first thought was: “please be two hours fast!” so I jumped up quickly, ran to look at my phone and sure enough, the time was right. Houston woke up and I screamed “our flight is boarding right now!” He jumped up and began getting ready. I was in a complete panic, crying frantically knowing we had just missed our flight to Jamaica.

It was then, in the midst of my panic and frustration that my husband of 16 hours took me in his arms and said, “Baby, everything is going to be fine!” He’s always been the calm one…at least someone is! 😉 Anyway, we called Cheryl (AKA our wedding planner, travel agent, organizer, and cousin) and Houston told her what was going on. I just knew that I had ruined our honeymoon and that we would never make it to Jamaica. Boy was I a mess! Cheryl made some phone calls and after about 45 minutes of not knowing what was going to happen, she called us back. Our flight would leave the following day at 6 A.M. on the dot. The Sandals resort worked with us and extended our stay until Friday that week instead of Thursday, free of charge. So the rest of the day was ours!

We checked out of our hotel around 10 and headed to eat breakfast at IHOP. After breakfast we hung out and did a little shopping. We decided to catch an afternoon movie and headed to the theater to see the romantic comedy, Blended. We then headed to our next hotel to unload our bags and prepare for the next day.

After checking into our hotel, we decided it would be best to go to the airport and get everything ready for our early flight the next day. We found our terminal and printed our itenerary. We then headed out for dinner and soon called it a night.

Looking back on that day, I wouldn’t change a single thing. At that moment, missing our flight seemed like the end of the world…but it wasn’t. The last few months had been so busy and crazy planning for our wedding and then on our wedding day we were going constantly and running on almost no sleep. The day off was more than appreciated. We got to spend our first official day as husband and wife just enjoying each other’s company. We had no agenda and nowhere to be. And through it all, God was so evident. He took care of everything. Funny how He always does that. 🙂

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Next stop…Jamaica…for real this time! 😉

Blessings and love,

Mrs. Hannah D. 🙂
