God Gave Me You

27 Feb

Music is something that speaks to me. It always has and always will. I’ve noticed, that more and more as I get older, I can listen to songs that I’ve heard before, then one day the meaning to them suddenly changes. It’s like I stop and fully listen to the words, and for the first time, the meaning of the song is different than before.

Lately, that has really been the case. I’ve been going through a somewhat, slightly difficult season. I know full well that there are so many people in much harder situations, I completely understand and respect that, which is why mine is really only slightly difficult. Anyway, I don’t want to go into a lot of details.

So the other night I stayed home from church. I was exhausted, tired, and just worn down from the days beforehand. Later that evening when getting ready for bed, I listened to the song “God Gave Me You” by Dave Barnes. This song I’ve heard at least a hundred times suddenly pierced my heart with the lyrics.

“I’ve been a walking heartache

I’ve made a mess of me

The person that I’ve been lately

Ain’t who I wanna be

But you stay here right beside me

And watch as the storm blows through

And I need you

Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs

God gave me you for the days of doubt

And for when I think I lost my way

There are no words here left to say, it’s true

God gave me you

Gave me you..”

I realized right then and there that this song, the one I’ve heard so many times, was absolutely about Houston.

I said in my last post “Weakness” that he has been such a shoulder to cry on and how he has definitely been the strong one. I was brought to tears as the words of this song resignated my heart. After listening to it I thanked him for standing right beside me and watching as this storm blew through, he said “Well, I hope I’m not just standing there, I hope I’m holding your hand through it..”

And he is. He’s holding my hand through it and goodness I’m so thankful.

Always my shoulder to cry on…❤️

I don’t think I could be more blessed. How awesome is it that God gives us people in our lives to help carry us through difficult seasons?! Whether it’s a spouse, family, friends, or all three, God gives us exactly who we need.

I’m so glad that God gave me you.

Weakness

5 Feb

This has been one of those weeks. A terrible one for sure. It was by the grace of God that I made it to the weekend.

I’ve been sick every single day, been exhausted beyond belief, and had multiple obstacles to overcome (or trip over). I do believe I’ve come home and cried everyday. Let’s just say, it hasn’t been easy this week.

So let’s switch gears and let me take a minute to brag. My sweet husband, bless his heart, has had to deal with the hundreds of emotions and tears this week has brought. He has been so good to me (he always is). He has listened, he has given advice, he’s prayed, and he’s been my shoulder to cry on each day. More and more I realize how blessed and thankful I am for this love we have. Thank You Jesus! ❤️

He has been the strong one this week. Who am I kidding, he’s always the strong one! But truthfully, I’m so thankful for his loving heart and his patience.

Also, huge shoutout to the rest of my family. Thank you for listening to me complain and cry each day, and thank you for your words of encouragement.

Through it all, I cannot give enough thanks and praise to God for carrying me through each day. I realize more every day that I would truly be lost, in every sense of the word, without my Savior. I have cried to Him, praised Him, and even questioned His plans for me; but He still carries me through and He still has such great things in store. Thank You Jesus!!!! ☺️

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”‭‭

–Psalm‬ ‭55:22‬

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”

“He remembered us in our weakness. His faithful love endures forever.”

–‭‭Psalms‬ ‭136:23‬

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”

–‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭3:20‬
