If I’m Honest

16 Jul

I have a serious struggle. It is one I’ve had since I was probably about 10. It isn’t that uncommon though. My weight.

Ever since I was much younger I’ve had issues with my size. I was the preteen that had a hard time buying clothes at Limited Too (yes that’s old school!) because I wasn’t built like most girls my age. I struggled all my teenage years wishing I could be “skinny.” I never was though.

And now, at age 25, I struggle more than ever. I’ve had this mindset recently (for whatever reason) that I am defined by the number on the scale. I dread stepping on, and most times, I close my eyes first (& even try to suck in!). 🙄

I’ll be the first to admit, I love food. Especially carbs. It’s a love/hate relationship. I’ve done Weight Watchers, My FitnessPal, & Advocare. I’ve tried exercising and eating better. They work for a while, but my mindset is always “I’m still fat.”

I constantly compare myself to others, wishing I was smaller, stronger, thinner, whatever. …told you I was being honest!

Anyway, this post isn’t an attempt to get compliments or to make anyone feel sorry for me. I just wanted to be real.

When I look past my weight and imperfections I see something more. I have so much to be thankful for. I have a Savior who loves me & has a purpose for my life. I have a husband who tells me I’m beautiful every single day and has never once made even the slightest comment about me needing to lose weight (he even hid the scale from me!). I have the best family anyone could ask for. I have a college degree, a good job, a home, a church family, friends, and so much more. I am NOT defined by the number on the scale. And guess what! Neither are you.

You are beautiful just like you are. We are created in the image and likeness of the Father. He looks at us and sees such beauty.

So if you have the same kind of struggle, just know you’re not alone. I may never be the world’s definition of “skinny,” but I’ll continue to take care of myself and enjoy life. I will work everyday to be healthy and I encourage everyone to. But remember this, life is too short to let the number on a scale or the size of your clothes define you.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭139:13-14‬

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭31:30‬

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11‬

You are beautiful. You are strong. You are enough.
