All Things New

5 Mar

Well, what a shock, it’s been about a month since I last blogged. #fail

Anyway, a lot has been going on in such a short amount of time. So let me start from the beginning…

I mentioned in my last post about a new season of life that I was about to start. This came in the form of a brand new job.

So I’ve been at my new job for about a month and a half. It is very different than where I was. Like night and day different. I’m at this point where I’m still trying to learn as much as I possibly can. I think that will be the case for a while though. Without going into details, I am so happy there. This job has been nothing short of an answer to prayer and I am very thankful that God opened the door in His perfect timing.

Another major milestone is that we got a puppy!!!!! My hubby & I have had puppy fever for a very long time. I saw on Facebook one day that a girl we knew was giving away some lab/catahoula mix puppies, so I sent her a message and told her we were super interested!

We picked up our sweet boy on February 16th (our 7 year dating anniversary!) and we are head over heels in love with him! 😍

Creed is three months old and as smart as they come!! Every time we come outside to see him he is SO excited to see us!!! We can’t wait to see what the future holds and to watch him grow. I may be a little biased, but he is the cutest dog ever! 😍

Lastly, this weekend we went to Texas to surprise one of Houston’s good friends for his birthday! πŸŽ‰ We were able to meet his friend’s girlfriend and a couple of their other friends that flew in for the weekend as well. It was a great time getting to relax and hang out with new friends! πŸ€—

Us girls! πŸ‘―

The guys!

Thankful for new/old friends! 😊

Our last night in town!

If you can’t tell, they were super stoked about taking this picture! 😏

The guys had a great time bass fishing! 🎣

Sometimes you need a weekend away to meet new friends, make new memories, and just have fun. That was this weekend for us.

This is such a beautiful life that God has blessed us with. I could not be more thankful!

God is good!

Blessings,

Home for Christmas

29 Dec

It’s hard to believe that Christmas has come and gone. The Christmas season is one that brings much anticipation and joy throughout the year. I have always been blessed to be home every year for Christmas; which is often something that I have taken for granted, that is, until this year.

My sweet husband’s 30th birthday was December 18th. Being his 30th, I wanted to do something really special for him. Something that would make this birthday unforgettable. So let’s rewind to June of this year. That is when the idea originated; take him on a surprise trip to peacock bass fish in Florida. This has always been a dream of his. See he LOVES to bass fish. Seriously though, love is probably an understatement. Anyway, being from the South, we don’t have these special type of bass anywhere. The closest they are is the southern most part of Florida. The water can’t get below 60 degrees in order for them to survive. They’re actually kind of pretty…but don’t tell him I said that! πŸ˜‰

So the day after his birthday, we set off for our great Florida adventure! We flew out on a Saturday and he fished that Sunday and Monday. I think he had a blast!

See what I mean? πŸ™‚

While he was fishing, I stayed at the resort to enjoy the beach and relax.

I didn’t mind this view at all…honest! πŸ˜‰

Fast forward now to Tuesday; it was three days before Christmas and we were both exhausted and ready to be home. We had a long day of flying, busy airports, and a two hour drive ahead of us before we’d finally be home.

Exhausted in the Atlanta airport ✈️😴

We finally made it home about 1:30 that morning and needless to say we were SO glad!

The next few days were filled with cooking, eating, presents, family, and most important, celebrating our Savior’s birth! Here are a few highlights from Christmas this year:

My sweet hubby & me; Christmas Day 2015! πŸŽ„β€οΈ

This year was my first time to ever travel around Christmas. It got me to thinking about the millions of people that travel every year for this holiday. The rush of the airports and the busyness of traveling makes it easy to forget the true meaning of Christmas and the blessing of spending time with the ones you love. I know that Christmas is over and we are closer than ever to the New Year, but I encourage you to take some time this holiday season to remember that Jesus is the reason we celebrate Christmas. Thank Him for the blessing of family and cherish each second spent with the ones you love!

Blessings,

Accidentally Country

20 Mar

I’ve lived in the city limits of a small Arkansas town my entire life. We literally lived on main street! When I met my sweet hubby about 5 years ago I knew that he lived in the country and that he was VERY outdoorsy! He LOVES to bass fish…and is really dang good at it! πŸ˜‰

Me on the otherhand…I am by no means outdoorsy. Ha! So when we figured out that we would probably get married someday, he began fixing up his grandfather’s house for us. Did I mention that said house is in the country? Well, it is. πŸ™‚ So on June 7th when we got married…I became accidentally country!

Living in the country is much different from living in town. It is quieter, more peaceful, and in the Spring and Summer…quite beautiful! But of course, the transition for me was a slight adjustment…

Apparently in the fall the ladybugs come out of hiding… So a lot of people really like ladybugs; they’re usually a pretty red or orange and they have spots! However, outside of the city limits the ladybugs come out in groups of a least a thousand. Well, maybe that is a slight exaggeration, but it’s at least in the hundreds! πŸ˜‰ They’re everywhere!!! And they sometimes get in the house…ya know since you can’t avoid opening the door to the outside! Needless to say killing ladybugs has become something I enjoy. πŸ˜‰

Another interesting occurence stars a opossum and a trash can… One afternoon after gathering the trash I stepped outside on the steps to throw the bag in the big trash can on the side of the house. I walked on to the steps and just leaned over the banister to drop it in the can. I missed the trash can (no surprise here!) and proceeded to walk down the steps to pick up said trash bag and put it in said can. As I dropped it in I noticed something in the other trash can right beside it. I looked over and lo and behold there was a opossum!!!!! And would you believe that he was playing opossum and pretending to be dead?!!! I screamed. Ran in the house. Then immediately called Houston. Well he was at work and couldn’t just race home to dispose of the pest so I came in and waited it out. Don’t worry, the opossum did escape unscathed, he was just a little shaken up! πŸ˜‰

I could go on for a while telling stories of this new country life, but we don’t have all day! So now, let me tell you about my latest occurence…

Spring in Arkansas always brings a lot of rain. Actually a lot of rain can come at anytime…the weather here is slightly unpredictable. For example; two weeks ago we had snow on the ground.

Our snow day a couple of weeks ago! :)

Our snow day a couple of weeks ago! πŸ™‚

Anyway, when we get a lot of rain the river close to our house rises. This doesn’t always affect us directly, but this time it did. Last Friday, the river began rising much quicker than we had hoped. So much so that it cut us off from our house. We gathered some clothes and went to stay with my mom.

Another picture of the bridge on Friday afternoon…

And THIS is the same bridge Saturday morning… 😦

We were able to come back to the house a couple of times, but we couldn’t drive our vehicles. We parked on the side of the four lane close to our house and my father-in-law came to pick us up. We travelled through the woods on what they refer to as the mule. Basically its similar to a four-wheeler. This was one of the interesting things we discovered on our adventure…

IMG_5699

This is a mound of fire ants! Did you know that when a fire ant mound goes under water that the ants will pile on top of each other and move constantly to keep afloat? Well I didn’t know and let me just say, I was pretty fascinated!!!

So fast forward to Thursday; the river has finally started to fall and we were able to come home!!! I never thought that I would miss our little country home as much as I did. Despite the adjustments, I’ve learned that there is truly no place like HOME!!

Home is where the heart is! πŸ™‚
