This is Us

21 Oct

Have you ever watched the NBC television show This is Us? If not, you are seriously missing out. It has easily become one of our most favorite TV shows!

There are so many wonderful things about this show. We’re midway in to season 2 and it has been nothing but good, wholesome, real life episodes. I have so much love for this show (clearly) that it has inspired me to write a blog about it.

Let’s start with Jack and Rebecca. The original parents. Mom and Dad to the big three. Crazy in love, but completely real in the way they work through hard, realistic issues. Jack is a good man. He is a hard worker, and he pushes Rebecca to take risks and work towards her dreams. He loves her unconditionally. He reminds me of my husband in those aspects. Rebecca says often that “he’s not perfect, but he’s as close as they come.” That’s Houston. He’s not perfect, but goodness he’s close.

Engagement picture from 2013; and I thought I loved him then. ❤️

He is crazy about their kids and he’s a good dad. That trait reminds me so much of my dad. He was crazy about my brother and me. He worked tirelessly until he absolutely couldn’t. Like Jack’s character, he wasn’t perfect. He had his vices. But even though the vices caused some hardships, they didn’t split our family apart. If anything, my brother and I learned from them, and my mom and dad stuck together despite it all.

My momma & daddy! ❤️

Kate. She’s one of the twins and one of the big three. Goodness I see so much of myself in her character. She has struggled all her life with her weight. She was always different in school from the other girls because she didn’t fit the cookie-cutter mold that most everyone else did. Her character had gotten to a point in life where she had pretty much stopped looking for a special someone. Then she met Toby. He loves her despite her flaws and issues. He sees her for who she truly is, not just what everyone else thinks. Every woman deserves to find a man who loves her for who she is and encourages her to be the best possible version of herself. I’m so glad I found mine.

But truly, what has hit me the hardest lately is the fact that Jack, their dad, has passed away. The show goes to flashbacks from when the characters were younger and the memories they have of their father. We as viewers don’t know yet how he died, but we do know that it happened while the big three were young. Most likely in their teenage years. You see the impacts the death has had on them even as adults in their late 30s. Revealing that the death of a parent is not something that you ever “get over.”

I so often think back to when I was younger and the memories I have with my Daddy. Whether it was him picking me up from school every Friday afternoon or him telling me “bye britches, I love you!” each morning when he left for work. I remember his favorite cologne and the little things he used to do that would drive me nuts. Things that I now find myself wishing for again. Though he’s only been gone 6 years (in December), it feels like it’s been a lifetime. I see so much in my own self and in my family’s life that has changed and I can’t help but wonder what life would be like if he were still here.

Always a Daddy’s girl; miss him tremendously. 💔

The final thing this show has revealed to me, that I actually already knew, is the impact parents have on the life of their children. You see the impact of Jack and Rebecca in the lives of Kate, Kevin, and Randall (the big three). And goodness has it made me realize the impact that my parents have always had on my life. I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am today if it wasn’t for the incredible, positive, Godly impact my parents have made in my life. I am eternally grateful. The show also touches on the negative impacts parents can have on their children. Specifically Jack’s character and the fact that his father was an alcoholic. Parents have such important roles of influence, even if they don’t realize it.

Anyway, I think I’ve rambled on enough. Go watch this show though. You will need a few tissues, but man its good.

I’ll Go Anywhere With You

5 Aug

Vacation is something I look forward to every single summer. That one week away from the day to day routine is good for the soul! It helps you to rest and refocus so you come back to normal life with a renewed outlook!

My favorite place to vacation is the white sand beach of Destin, FL. It has and will always be my happy place.

This year we decided to save some money and go on a week long road trip! We are trying to build a house ya know! 😏
Our journey started in Fayetteville. I’ve never been before so we travelled about 4 hours north to see the home of the Razorbacks! We visited a couple of popular stores I’d always wanted to go to and then settled in for the night.

Our first stop; Fayetteville…home of the Razorbacks!!

Don’t let the face fool you, he was excited!!

southern trend

Our next stop was Eureka Springs to see the gorgeous Thorncrown Chapel and the Christ of the Ozarks statue. Eureka Springs is such a different and very eclectic city. The homes and businesses have the look of those you’d imagine to be in a storybook. Such a unique place. The Chapel was one of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever seen. My cousin, E. Fay Jones, was the architects on this beautiful building. Pretty cool right?! And the Christ statue was massive and beautiful. It overlooked the Ozark mountains!

Having lunch downtown in Eureka Springs!

Such a cute restaurant with yummy food!

Branson, MO was our third stop on our trip! We stayed one night, and while we were there we saw Moses at the Sight & Sound Theater and had some awesome seafood at Landry’s! Moses was such a fantastic show. It was a depiction of the life and purpose of Moses and how he, with God’s guidance and strength, helped to free the Hebrew slaves from Pharoah’s ruling. So awesome!!

Our fourth stop was the small town of Pawhuska, OK. You may be wondering, “what in the world would take you to that part of Oklahoma?!” Well, anyone that knows me knows my LOVE for all things Pioneer Woman. 😍 Whether it be her dishes, cookbooks, recipes, or TV show, the Pioneer Woman is basically my spirit animal!!! 🤗 My incredible husband agreed to take me to her new Mercantile that opened in October 2016. It was EVERYTHING I imagined it to be and so much more. There were thousands of items in the store, an incredible deli with amazing food (such as the best biscuit I’ve ever eaten, which I know will be in Heaven someday!), and a bakery with more homemade baked goods than I can count!!! We even stumbled upon the entrance to their Ranch!!!! Ahhh!!! 😍😍😍

Our fourth stop!!!!

The store was HUGE!!

And the best husband EVER award goes to…..

Trying to contain my excitement!!!!

Take a wile guess who was most excited about our 7 AM breakfast at the Mercantile!!!

Our fifth and final stop was the DFW area to spend a few days with friends!! We arrived late that Thursday evening. That Friday Houston & his buddy went fishing while my friend Tiffany and I hung out! It was so good to catch up! Then that night we went to the Texas Rangers game to watch them win against the Baltimore Oriole’s!! So fun!!! Saturday Tiffany & I did some shopping (hello new Kate Spade purse! 😍) then we had church that night and some super delish Italian food! We had the best time hanging out and catching up with friends!

Tiffany & Me

Last but not least, visiting friends in the DFW area!! My sweet friend Tiffany & me!

Heck of a view!!! (The field is nice too! Ha)

awesome friends

So, so, so thankful for their friendship & hospitality!!

We got home on Sunday and we’re welcomed by our sweet pup that we missed terribly!!! 😍😍😍 It was a wonderful vacation, but truly there is no place like home!

On this trip we were able to save money, see new places, laugh and make lots of memories! We drove just over 1,500 total miles in just 6 days! I am so thankful I get to travel the world with my best friend/husband. ❤️

All Things New

5 Mar

Well, what a shock, it’s been about a month since I last blogged. #fail

Anyway, a lot has been going on in such a short amount of time. So let me start from the beginning…

I mentioned in my last post about a new season of life that I was about to start. This came in the form of a brand new job.

So I’ve been at my new job for about a month and a half. It is very different than where I was. Like night and day different. I’m at this point where I’m still trying to learn as much as I possibly can. I think that will be the case for a while though. Without going into details, I am so happy there. This job has been nothing short of an answer to prayer and I am very thankful that God opened the door in His perfect timing.

Another major milestone is that we got a puppy!!!!! My hubby & I have had puppy fever for a very long time. I saw on Facebook one day that a girl we knew was giving away some lab/catahoula mix puppies, so I sent her a message and told her we were super interested!

We picked up our sweet boy on February 16th (our 7 year dating anniversary!) and we are head over heels in love with him! 😍

Creed is three months old and as smart as they come!! Every time we come outside to see him he is SO excited to see us!!! We can’t wait to see what the future holds and to watch him grow. I may be a little biased, but he is the cutest dog ever! 😍

Lastly, this weekend we went to Texas to surprise one of Houston’s good friends for his birthday! 🎉 We were able to meet his friend’s girlfriend and a couple of their other friends that flew in for the weekend as well. It was a great time getting to relax and hang out with new friends! 🤗

Us girls! 👯

The guys!

Thankful for new/old friends! 😊

Our last night in town!

If you can’t tell, they were super stoked about taking this picture! 😏

The guys had a great time bass fishing! 🎣

Sometimes you need a weekend away to meet new friends, make new memories, and just have fun. That was this weekend for us.

This is such a beautiful life that God has blessed us with. I could not be more thankful!

God is good!

Long Weekends

28 Nov

I am exceedingly thankful for weekends, even more thankful for long weekends!

Thanksgiving has come and gone and we are now officially in the Christmas season! 🎄

Let me recap on my beautiful Thanksgiving…

I got off work early on Wednesday and spent the whole afternoon cooking! I decided it would be easiest to prep all my food ahead of time so that on Thanksgiving morning I wouldn’t be too stressed. 😝

I prepped four green bean casseroles , party mashed potatoes, a lemon pie, and a four layer delight! So yum! Check out the links! ☺️

Now comes Thanksgiving day! If I’m honest, I was really dreading it this year. It was my Daddy’s birthday and I couldn’t help but think about where we were on his birthday 5 years ago (also Thanksgiving). The day turned out to be such a blessing though.

First we had lunch with my husband’s family. There were several of us there, lots of good food and laughs! I’m so thankful that they have always welcomed me as part of the family. ☺️

He’s my favorite. ❤️

Next we headed to my aunt’s for my family Thanksgiving! I can’t even tell you how many people were there. There were tons of people and tons of food! I was able to see family that I haven’t seen in a long time and that was such a blessing. We ended the evening by dancing for hours with all the kids (and some of us adults too!). It was a blast!

My precious Emery Kate! 💕

Dancing away! 💃🏻🤗

Oh Adalyn Britt, you’re growing so fast! 💕

It was one of the best Thanksgivings I’ve had. Goodness I’m so thankful!!!

Friday was spent Black Friday shopping with my momma!! We got lots of good deals, stayed out way too late, laughed, and talked. I couldn’t be more blessed to call her my momma and bestie. 💚

Then on Saturday I got to spend the whole day with my sweet hubby!!! We had lunch in town, he let me do a little more Christmas shopping, and then we listened to Christmas music and decorated the house!!! 🎄❤️🤗

I even made some Pioneer Woman Chocolate Chunk Cookies!!  They’re our favorite! 😋🍪

Then today has consisted of church this morning, relaxing, & babysitting our sweet nieces!! 💕 It has been a much needed long weekend and I can’t help but thank God for all His many blessings. He is so, so good to me.

Hope you have a beautiful Sunday!!

The Best. Day. Ever.

14 Apr

My niece Adalyn’s birthday is the day before mine, on April 4th. In the last couple of years we’ve started calling each other “birthday besties,” and it makes my heart smile to see her excitement around our birthdays!

She has many “sayings,” one of them being “this is the best day ever!!” Now keep in mind she has said this on multiple occasions, about multiple days! Haha. I found myself saying this just last week, and it was true about more than one day!

Adalyn’s 4th birthday “tea” party was the Sunday before her birthday. It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon…perfect day for a family birthday party! She was surrounded by people who love her and she got tons of gifts! She even said “this is the best party ever!!” Precious. Let me share a few pictures… 💕

Birthday Besties!! 💕😄💁🏻

Goodness she’s so grown up! 😭💕

Sweet Emery Kate!! 😍

Sweet Southern Belle 💕

The next two days were full of family time…my favorite!!! We went out to eat for our birthdays that Monday night, then had cookies & birthday presents! Here’s a few pictures… 😄

Blowing out her birthday cookie candles! 😄

I am completely in love with this picture!!! Three of my most favorite people in the universe. ❤️

Best nieces ever. 😘

Always so thankful for my wonderful hunby!! ❤️

Such a beautiful girl! 💕

Birthdays have always been a big deal to me and even to our family. For most of my young adult life I always had a “birthday week,” sometimes even a “birthday month!” Haha. But in 2012 that all changed. I became an aunt on April 4, 2012, the day before my 21st birthday. The day Adalyn Britt was born my life also changed forever. I finally “grew up” in a sense and realized that there was someone else that all the birthday thunder would go to!

So now I look forward to making her birthday so special and I can’t wait to make Emery’s birthday special each July. God has blessed me with wonderful, beautiful people to share this life with. It makes my heart so happy to celebrate the people I love.

It is awesome to serve a God who loves us so much that He blesses our lives with family and friends to love. God is so good.

Letter to My Niece

22 Nov

My niece is two. Her birthday is the day before mine…talk about the best birthday present ever! That day I became an aunt, and before she was born I had always heard about how strong a mother’s love is, but never experienced it. Then she came along. Though I am not a mom, I know that as soon as I heard her cry I knew that I had never loved anyone like I loved her. She changed our family’s world forever. And since then she’s had each of us wrapped around her little finger!

I have watched her grow into the most fun, lovable, smart, beautiful little girl. And though she’s only two, I can’t help but think…”don’t grow up so fast…just stay this little as long as you can.” To her everything is funny…she is full of joy and lots of laughter! She sees the world so innocently and life is full of wonder. Her smile is contagious and she has my whole heart!

Even though she can’t read yet…this is a post just for her. I want her to grow up and know that she is important, that she never has to wonder if she is good enough. When you’re a teenager, and sometimes even when you’re an adult you go through things and wonder, “am I good enough?” It could be heartbreak, disappointment, a test in school, or not getting a job. There are so many things that could factor into making you feel that way. So when you get older and go through all these things that we won’t be able to protect you from, just remember that you are so important. You’re important to me, to our family, and to God.

Never lose your faith in God. Through all the ups and downs, joys and sorrows of life, God is always with you. He will never leave you. He loves you and you are so precious in His sight. Never lose your faith in people either. There are people in this world who are cruel and hurtful, but there are also people who are wonderful and kind. Don’t give up on the hope of kind people. Be kind to everyone, whether they return the kindness or not.

Cherish every second you spend with family and friends. Hold on tight to each precious memory you have with the ones who love you so much. Memories are such a beautiful part of life.

You are loved. Sweet girl you are loved more than you could ever know! You are so loved by your family…never forget that! You never got to meet him, but your Pop would have been absolutely crazy about you. He loved you even though he never got to meet you on Earth. When he found out about you, he talked about how he would take you riding around in his truck and how he would pull you in a pink wagon. You were already so special to him, just as you are to us. Always remember to love in return. Love your family always, even when you’re a teenager and being with family is the lamest thing ever…always love them and always remember we love you too.

You are beautiful. Inside and out, you are so beautiful! And you better not listen to anyone who tries to tell you otherwise.

Keep laughing and keep making people laugh. You’re so funny…you always make us laugh and smile! Don’t ever grow out of that. Laughter is good for the soul and life is way too short not to smile and laugh.

Do good. When you get older and go out into the world, do good. Never be afraid to be who you are and stand up for what you believe in. Be a good person; be kind to people and truly care about others.

I know you’re still so young, but as you get older never stop singing and dancing along to the radio, hug the ones you love every chance you get, remember all the fun times you have at MeMe’s house and Nana’s house, remember what it sounds like when your Daddy gets home, and always stay Momma’s sweet girl. And always remember that Uncle Houston and Aunt Hannah love you lots and lots. As do everyone else!
